Our Efforts Matter

Screen shot of image for the Joint Letter urging Canada to stand up to threats to international law, peace, justice (focus on the Americas)

It was only recently that the CC board found a joint open letter: Canada, oppose U.S. threats to rights, sovereignty and peace in Venezuela and the Americas (Nov. 2025) from the APGOPA (Americas Policy Group/Groupe d’orientation politique pour les Amériques). I’m grateful that this coalition was speaking out then, but discouraged that, in the “mainstream” there seems to be so few efforts to prevent the erosion of human rights, peace and justice. Then I heard the CBC Ideas episode with Sudanese journalist Yousra Elbagir, who spoke of the failure of the international community to protect people in Sudan and what that has meant on the ground. She explained that as right wing groups in countries like Canada focus almost exclusively on issues of short term material benefit, governments no longer seem willing to work to support human rights and international law. Sending UN peacekeeping missions to places where genocide was a threat didn’t bring an end to the threats but at least it mitigated those threats somewhat.

Canada is complicit too: War on Venezuela

Posted on January 13, 2026 by Conscience Canada Posted in Promote Peace

Conscience Canada Supports FOR-USA’s statement regarding the war on Venezuelans. Canadian intelligence, equipment and personnel have also been involved in these illegal actions. This more in depth article also documents how Canadian diplomacy has undermined Venezuelan sovereignty and due process.

No war on Venezuela (of course!)

Posted on January 2, 2026 by Conscience Canada Posted in Promote Peace

Of course Conscience Canada supports efforts by World Beyond War to stop and prevent war crimes against Venezuelans.

To find out more about the lies associated with the violence, and about how you can work to say no, please go to their site. We may want to ask members of our government how they/we can be in close military cooperation with governments which commit war crimes and blatantly violate international law. … There is, undoubtedly, so much we need to question and rethink. And then, align our actions with what is needed for life and basic ethical decision-making.

Nimâ Machouf à bord du “Conscience”

Posted on October 12, 2025 by Conscience Canada Posted in Blog

People’s Hearings on Military Spending

Posted on August 30, 2025 by Conscience Canada Posted in Promote Peace

Military spending in Canada is poised to skyrocket – the pretext being NATO’s arbitrary new commitment that member states commit a staggering 5 percent of GDP on military spending. That represents $150b/annually in Canada.
