Nimâ Machouf à bord du “Conscience”
Depuis 2008 plusieurs groupes on tenté de forcer le blocus du gouvernement israélien contre Gaza. L’organisme médiatique Pivot a publié une entrevue avec Nimâ Machouf, professeure épidémiologiste québécoise qui a participé à l’action non-violente de la Global Sumud Flotilla . Elle explique une raison principale de sa participation : “le travail que nous faisons actuellement, ce sont les gouvernements qui devraient le faire, et étant donné que les gouvernements ne le font pas, on est obligé nous, humanitaires, personnel de santé, et journalistes, de le faire et de s’aventurer en mer pour éventuellement pouvoir briser le siège de Gaza.” Selon La Presse elle a été arrêtée avec d’autres membres de la flottille le 7 octobre : https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/2025-10-08/flottille-pour-gaza/nima-machouf-avait-peur-mais-refusait-de-se-resoudre-a-l-indifference.php.
En cette époque où les médias peuvent être considérés une arme c’est encourageant de prendre connaissance de Pivot qui offre un journalisme rigoureux, sans prétendre à la neutralité; la “neutralité” signifie, souvent, un parti pris pour le statu quo.

People’s Hearings on Military Spending
Military spending in Canada is poised to skyrocket – the pretext being NATO’s arbitrary new commitment that member states commit a staggering 5 percent of GDP on military spending. That represents $150b/annually in Canada.

Building a Future Without War: A Workshop for Action & Solidarity
US-based Center on Conscience & War is hosting a two-evening (Aug. 19 & 20, 2025) online workshop panel bringing together powerful voices from national organizations that support people confronting the military system—whether they’re being recruited, currently serving, seeking discharge, or looking for healing and solidarity after service.
Featured speakers include Stephen Englehart, legendary Marvel Comics writer (Captain America, Doctor Strange) and a Vietnam-era Conscientious Objector.

In their article on the Rise of End Times Fascism , Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor help us understand what the real threats are: “The forces we are up against have made peace with mass death. They are treasonous to this world and its human and non-human inhabitants.” It’s obvious that spending billions of public money on militarism, often enriching some of the end times fascist entities, using gifts from our living home, the earth, in totally unsustainable ways, is counterproductive.
Conscience Canada is working with other activists from across the country to explore options for unarmed civilian defence (UCD). Instead of investing in “defence” that relies on violence and threats, we want to invest in protecting what we love. Researchers such as Erica Chenowith & Maria Stephan have shown nonviolent social change efforts are often more effective than violence in protecting what we value. Most governments seem to have discounted this option, so it’s up to us to make it happen.
