In this season for peace, fundamental rights…

Posted on October 27, 2026 by Conscience Canada Posted in Promote Peace

As has been our custom for years now, we are distributing white poppies and wallet cards like the one above. Feel free to reach out to b.nota[@]icloud.com or info[@]consciencecanada.ca for sample poppies and cards.

There’s much more you can do too -> Share our pamphlet on questioning increasing militarization available under “resources“.

Check out our blog for other ideas. Make your own poppies, maybe in a group; find ideas under “creativity“.

As A.J. Muste said, “There is no way to peace; peace is the way.” Here’s hoping Conscience Canada can help us find our way!

Invitation to Help Bring Zain Home to Canada

Posted on October 27, 2026 by Conscience Canada Posted in Blog

CC member Basir Bita writes:
Dear friends,

Below is a 15/10/26 letter to Jeyan Jeganathan of TVO’s The Rundown. May it inspire more such letters!

Hello Jeyan,

Last evening we watched the topic “Is Canada’s Military Ready for a More Dangerous World?”
I was concerned with your interview of Ann Fitz-Gerald from the Balsillie School of International Affairs. I was troubled by her use of the term “deter” as in we need to have this “Defence, Security and Resilience Bank” to invest in deterrence. I was expecting you to ask her what she meant by deterrence but it never happened. I find this to be a problem on other news programs where it is just assumed that Canada needs to spend $ billions on “deterrence” as is being planned by the Federal Liberal government under PM Mark Carney – actually up to 5% of GDP or $150 billion every single year by the 2030’s.

IPPNW-Canada has partnered with Doctors for Planetary Health for a webinar on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026, at 5PM PT/8PM ET on nuclear power with Linda Pentz Gunter who will present from her recent book  No to Nuclear.

If you’re curious about nuclear energy in the context of the review of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), please join us to hear insights from Linda’s work on disarmament and energy issues, situating energy debates in international politics’ present moment. The session will be facilitated by M V Ramana.
