Amid the various commemorations of the War of 1812 that have been underway, those who wish to remember the peace church pioneers are also engaged in the bicentennial of the war.

Webpages and a blog provide information about peace church related activities and to facilitate a forum for those who want to reflect on the voices of peace ranging from 1812 to the present.

The ‘War Resistance in 1812‘ Blog, hosted by Carol Penner, welcomes guest bloggers, comments and links to relevant articles online: http://warresistancein1812.blogspot.com/

Webpages dedicated to the commemoration of historic peace church activities and resistance to the War of 1812 are hosted by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Ontario: http://ontario.mcc.org/warpeace-1812

Historical Markers are being placed in 2012 in the Niagara region, with plaques dedicated to the pioneers of peace from the Quaker, Brethren in Christ and Mennonite traditions. The texts of the plaques can be viewed on the MCC Ontario webpages, and these are also available in French translation (http://ontario.mcc.org/historical-markers-french-translations) The ‘Events‘ page on the MCC Ontario site will also list upcoming activities.

These initiatives grew out of the ‘1812 Bicentennial Peace Committee‘, a collaboration between Quakers, Brethren in Christ and Mennonites in Ontario. For more information please contact Carol Penner on the blog or Jonathan Seiling at warresistersin1812@gmail.com.
